These days, movies’ shelf lives are shorter than ever. Films that brought in big bucks last year are relatively forgotten now. However, their directors live on. Here’s what you can expect soon from some of last year’s wonder boys.

  1. Gavin Hood Last year, his X-Men Origins: Wolverine adaptation didn’t go over so well with fanboys. However, his next film (slated for 2012?) may have a more universal appeal. It’s an untitled adventure film about the 1925 serum run to Nomealso portrayed in the children’s film Balto.
  2. J.J. Abrams Star Trek, on the other hand, was a smash hit with both Trekkies and the average viewing audience. In addition to producing and possibly directing a 2012 sequel, Abrams produced the upcoming comedy Morning Glory and is directing the still-secretive Super 8.
  3. Ron Howard Howard’s adaptation of Dan Brown’s Angels & Demons had just as many mixed reviews as its predecessor. His new film is a comedy (the first since 1999) called The Dilemma, previously known as Cheaters. It centers on the dilemma a man faces when he sees his friend’s wife cheating on him.
  4. McG The succinctly-named director managed to turn what could have been a throwaway sequel into a moderate success with his Terminator: Salvation. He’s attached to a number of upcoming films, including This Means War (a spy comedy) and a film adaptation of the rock musical Spring Awakening.
  5. Harold Ramis: Ramis’s contribution last summer was the Michael Cera/Jack Black comedy Year One. For his next film outing, however, he won’t be behind the camera, but in front of it. Ramis is returning as Dr. Egon Spengler in the 2012-planned Ghostbusters III.
